About

Welcome! I am a professor and writing program director at a university in Southern California. See here for a detailed bio.

Reach College Success emerged through the combination of parents seeking help for their children and my own observations of the struggles of university students. Heeding the former and spurred by the latter, I wanted to offer earlier support to improve academic success, facilitate institutional transition, and foster personal well-being. And so, Reach College Success was born.

My own academic journey began as a first-generation college student. I completed my undergraduate studies in New York and my graduate training at the University of Michigan, where I earned my MA and PhD.

Throughout my career, I remained connected to primary and secondary education, serving as a school board member and a content expert for the California Department of Education’s review of curricular materials, as well as an institute director for teacher education. I lead teacher trainings, mentor students, and partner with student-serving community organizations. I am also a parent, which provides further insight on challenges that students face.

As a professor, I have taught thousands of students and received many awards for professional activities. Yet, my greatest reward is seeing my students flourish as they fulfill new goals in college, graduate school, law school, medical school, and in diverse careers beyond.
